“Christmas will not be complete without a good roast turkey,” says chef John Singin Junior.
The junior sous chef at One World Hotel Petaling Jaya said the hotel was adopting the traditional approach for its Christmas buffet this year. Visitors to Cinnamon Coffee House will be able to indulge in over 170 dishes this month.
Taking centre stage at the buffet line is the turkey. “This year, we will be showcasing a US-imported 6kg turkey with chestnut, mixed bread and mushroom filling.
“We offer both giblet and cranberry sauces to go with the dish, but I recommend the giblet sauce for an earthy flavour,” he said.
As for other dishes on the spread, I enjoyed Chicken Cordon Bleu with Mushroom Sauce and Roasted Lamb with Apple Pear Chutney and Cranberry Sauce, which was served with pilaf.
The cheese-filled chicken had generous amounts of herb-infused buttery mushroom sauce.
The juicy roast lamb spotting a pink centre is ideal for those who prefer their meat done medium well.
Other Christmas-inspired dishes include Baked Sea Bass with Garlic Cream Sauce, Beef Medallion Onion Marmalade and Herb Crusted Roast Strip Loin.
On top of these Western favourites, the buffet also has Japanese specials, including fresh sushi, sashimi, maki and crispy tempura.
Diner can check out a tantalising assortment of fresh seafood, among them oysters, scallops, tiger prawns, crabs and green mussels.
For meat lovers, the carvery station is where diners can find the roast leg of lamb served with garlic and rosemary sauce.
The live pasta station allows diners to personalise their meal.
There are also local delights to complete the culinary experience. Some items to try include chicken rice, briyani rice, lamb varuval, chicken, beef and lamb satay, porridge and dim sum.
Ending the night with desserts, I decided to opt for the chef-recommended chocolate Yule Log as it is the highlight this year. True enough, the sweet cake left a lasting impression and its richness is an indulgence for chocolate lovers.
Among other delectable desserts are gingerbread, mince pie, Christmas pudding, churros, stollen, ice cream and a chocolate fountain.
